Cabinet Card of Tattooed Lady Nora Hildebrandt

Nora Hildebrandt was one of the first tattooed ladies, debuting at Bunnell's Museum in New York in 1882. She was tattooed by her husband, Martin Hildebrandt, who is credited as the first professional tattoo artist in the United States. Photograph by Charles Eisenmann, 229 Bowery, New York, ca. 1890. Albumen print on card mount. Inscribed on verso "Miss Nora Hildebrandt / Born in Melbourne Australia Age 25 Years."
