Group of Founding Father Manuscript Deeds Signed by Timothy Matlack, Peter Muhlenberg, Thomas McKean, and Beverley Randolph [Revolutionary War - Declaration of Independence]

A group of seven manuscript land deeds and other documents pertaining to and signed by various founding fathers, politicians, and signers of the Declaration of Independence, Pennsylvania and Virginia, 1787-1813. Comprising the following:

1. Manuscript deed on vellum, signed by Thomas McKean (1734-1817), signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation, and Timothy Matlack (1736-1829), official scribe of the Declaration of Independence. Conveying a tract of land near Somerset known as "Lime Stone Spring," from Herman Husband to Isaac Husband, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1804. Signed by McKean beneath the state seal at upper left; Matlack's signature, faded but legible, appears on the verso adjacent to the seal. Seals intact. Very good condition.

2. Manuscript deed on vellum, signed by Thomas McKean (1734-1817), signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. Conveying a tract of land to Colonel Alexander McClean (1746-1834), militia officer and surveyor associated with the Mason-Dixon line and western boundary work, Quemahoning Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, March 27, 1793. Signed by McKean beneath the state seal at upper left. Seals intact. Scattered insect damage and losses visible in photos.

3. Manuscript deed on vellum, signed by Peter Muhlenberg (1746-1807), clergyman, Continental Army officer, and later U.S. Congressman and Senator. Conveying a tract of land known as "Canaan" to John Holy from Jacob Leman, Brothers Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, May 22, 1788. Signed by Muhlenberg beneath the seal. Attested by James Trimble for Charles Biddle. Seals intact. Very good condition.

4. Manuscript deed on vellum, signed by Beverley Randolph (1754-1797), Governor of Virginia, member of the House of Delegates, and Revolutionary War militia leader. Conveying a tract of land to Andrew Ramsey, Monongahela County, Virginia, October 9, 1789. Signed by Randolph at bottom. Seal intact. Very good condition.

5. Three manuscript bond documents on paper regarding money to be paid to James Matlack and Timothy Matlack, grandsons of Timothy Matlack (1736–1829), official scribe of the Declaration of Independence, Philadelphia, 1797–1813.
Largest: 12 x 20 1/2 in. (30.5 x 52.1 cm.)
