[Military and Aviation] Flying Ace WWI Distinguished Service Citation & Aero Club War Medal, Lansing C. Holden

Framed World War I display comprising a United States Army Distinguished Service Cross citation, a uniformed portrait photograph, and an Aero Club of America War Medal certificate, all relating to Lieutenant Lansing C. Holden, Jr. (1896-1938), a notable American military aviator of the First World War. The certificates in this lot are period WWI-era photographs of the original paper documents. The ribbon is original.

Holden served with the American Expeditionary Forces Air Service and was recognized as a flying ace, credited with multiple aerial victories during combat operations over France. The Distinguished Service Cross citation, issued by the American Expeditionary Forces, awards Holden for extraordinary heroism in military operations against an armed enemy, formally signed in the name of the President and dated November 1918. Centered between the documents is a period black-and-white photograph of Holden in uniform, with a small mounted ribbon bar beneath. At right is the Aero Club of America certificate, certifying the award of its War Medal to Lieutenant Holden in recognition of valor and distinguished service, dated December 1918, and signed by club officers.
Frame: 11 1/4 x 27 1/4 in. (28.6 x 69.2 cm.)
